On the 28th June 1919, the Treaty of Versailles was signed at the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles. This brought to an end to the First World War and settled the terms for Peace. As a signatory, this was the first political treaty signed by Australian officials. It established Australia as not only an independant nation under international law but also a member of the newly formed League of Nations.
In celebrating the centenary, the Royal Australian Mint has designed a coin with the reverse of each coin inspired by the 1919 Australian Peace Medal - Triumph of Liberty and Justice which was presented to Australian schoolchildren in honour of the occasion.
