Australian Coins

1910 was the year that our first coins were produced for the Commonwealth of Australia. The 1910 silver shilling arrived on the 1^st March 1910 having been minted by the Royal Mint in London. The florins, threeoences and sixpences arrived later that same year. The Pennies and halfpennies arrived a year later with the George V head after the death of Edward V11 in 1910

It was on 14 February 1966 that Australia started to use decimal currency – the dollars and cents that we know today. This was a lot easier than the old money and showed off the unique Australian animals that set this country apart from the rest of the world.
